Bonded fillings restore London smiles
Understanding composite restorationsBonded fillings are made of a composite resin material. This is basically a pliable plastic shaded to match your existing teeth. It contains finely ground glass that gives the composite a luminous quality that mimics natural tooth enamel. It is bonded into place, shaped, and cured with a special light. Composite resins resist staining, and they are strong and durable; suitable even for restorations on back molars (which are subject to a great deal of bite force).
When is a composite restoration appropriate?Bonding material is extremely versatile. Our dentists use it to:
- Repair cavities.
- Restore minor breakage.
- Hide discolouration, chips, cracks, or imperfections in tooth enamel.
- Improve the shape or size of a tooth.
- Close gaps between teeth.
- Protect a bit of tooth root that has been exposed by gum recession.
